About Us

Our History

In 1988, founder Nick Kontogiorgis, started Islander Distributors working out of the family garage, two tuckerbox freezers and one van. Very quickly he discovered that the market lacked a food service operator with integrity and dedication to the industry. Within a few months the realisation came that the garage was too small and moved to a small warehouse in which a 50 sqm freezer was built, and a second van was added to the fleet.

Within twelve months this warehouse was bursting at the seams and it was time to move again. A much larger facility at St Peters was selected with a 200sqm freezer and a cool room. The first trucks were purchased and we started to get serious about foodservice. Angelo Kontogiorgis joined Nick permanently and together have made Islander Foodservice what it is today, a company with a fleet of twelve refrigerated trucks, a freezer boasting 1500 pallet storage capacity, and a 3000 pallet dry storage capacity.
